Eva " Jean " Root, age 100, passed away quietly at her home on January 20, 2026.
Jean was born August 4, 1925 to the late Edmund and Annie (Ogg) Black in Salix, lA.
On February 17, 1951 Jean married Earl K. Root in Omaha, NE. They farmed on the Pott. & Mills county lines, raising cattle, corn and beans. Jean and Earl had two sons Kenneth and Steven. They lived in Elkhorn, Nebraska for a short time before moving back to the farm on county line.
Jean was a homemaker and an awesome cook, she is famous for many of the dishes she made, but her chili dogs are remembered best by anyone who worked on the farm!
Jean and Earl were married for 32 yrs before Earl's passing in March 1983.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by all her siblings; Edith Berney, Evelyn Bailey, Enda Bourrette, Everett Black, Ellis Black, Elma Drawbridge, Earl (Bud) Black and Elmer Black.
Jean leaves behind sons, Kenneth (Cynde) Root of Council Bluffs, lA and Steven (Lezli) Root, of Linwood KS; six grandchildren, Tye, Jeremy, Tory, Mandy, Colby and Jordan Root; great grandchildren, Aydan, Georgina, Ava, James, Adalyn, Rilee, River Jean, Koda, Xander,Trey ,Jacob and Joleton, Naomi and another on the way, Jules; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation in the Hoy Kilnoski Community Room will be 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The family will direct memorials.
