Life's Journey

Mother Harris was born June 12, 1935 to Benjamin and Corrine Davis.

She was the second child of three children.

She attended Riis Elementary School, Englewood High School and Wilson Junior College.

Mother Harris worked at the United States Postal Office and she was the music teacher at La Petite Academy Day Care Center.

In December of 1957 she united in Holy Matrimony to James Curtis Harris Sr. To this union, three children were born; James Curtis Harris Jr., Carl Jerome Harris and Janet Collette Harris.

Mother Harris accepted her faith in Jesus Christ at the age of nine years old; Mother Harris along with her only sister who was eight years old united with the St. James Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Jesse Campbell. Mother Agnes Campbell became her spiritual mother and the Campbell family her spiritual family. Mother Harris was the junior choir director, her and her sister also sang in the Jubilee 5 singing group. They were known for singing and shouting in Church. Mother Harris was also Bishop Campbell's favorite bible reader.

Mo. Harris accompanied her husband to the Campbell Temple Church of God in Christ in Robbins, Illinois. Pastor Harris was the Assistant Pastor for a few years, Pastor Harris then answered the call of God to organize his own church.

True Holiness Church of God in Christ was birthed in December of 1969. Mother Harris worked side by side with her husband in the ministry, they also sang duos such as "I got Jesus and I know he's mine."

Mother Harris was the first organist, radio announcer, choir director, Sunday School teacher, cook, van driver and whatever her hands found to do. Mother Harris would also read the Bible when Pastor Harris would preach. Mother Harris was also known for leading songs with the choir such as "Spread the word, I can go to God in Prayer and Called on the Lord and got an answer. Mother Harris was known for saying "God Bless" on the radio broadcast. Mother Harris attended True Holiness Church every Sunday.

The impact of Mother Harris's ministry has been felt far and near. Her motivational, spirit filled speaking and quoting poems, has touched many lives. Mother Harris had an unwavering dedication to her husband and the ministry.

Mother Harris was awarded a Legacy award from the Church of God in Christ by Supervisor Mother Livonia Whittley and International Mother Julia Rivers.

Mother Harris loved her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The only love to supersede her love of family was her love for God and His word.

Her favorite bible scripture was Psalms 27 which her and her daughter would quote together.

Preceding her in death are: her parents, Benjamin and Corrine Davis; her brother, Robert Lee Davis; her husband, Administrative Assistant, Superintendent Pastor James C. Harris Sr.; her son, Minister James Curtis Harris Jr.

Mother Harris was welcomed into the Lord's embrace on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories:

Son, Administrative Assistant, Superintendent Pastor Carl Jerome Harris; one and only daughter, Evangelist Janet C. Sutton (Arthur); sister, Evangelist Corinea Smith (Pastor Alfred Smith); daughter-in-law, Yvette Harris; brother-in-love, Alphonzo Harris, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, god sons, and god daughters; the staff of Among Friends Adult Daycare Center and her caretakers; the True Holiness Church and other extended church families.
