DYER CHAPEL-Callie Hazel Steward Brewington, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on February 18, 1940, in Cookeville, Hazel was a lifelong resident of the community that she cherished deeply.
Throughout her life, Hazel was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and her commitment to serving others. She owned and operated B&B Grill at Tech, where she was well-regarded for her dedication to providing excellent service and delicious meals to her patrons. After many fulfilling years in that role, she later retired from Russell Stover Candy Company, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination.
Hazel's proudest accomplishments were rooted in her faith and her family. Attending church whenever able was of great importance to her, and she found joy and solace in her spiritual community. She was a source of strength for her family, exemplifying love and devotion throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Brewington and Lisa Brewington, both of Cookeville; her brothers, Buddy (Gail) Steward and David Steward of Cookeville; and her sisters, Rosalie Judd of Indiana and Maelene (Izell) Ramsey of Cookeville. Hazel was a cherished grandmother to Dustin Bilbrey, Brandon Henley, and Lacy (Jason) Stamps, and her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Kaylee Henley, Emma Stamps, Callie Henley, Morgan Stamps, Jack Stamps, and Rylan Bilbrey; and great-great grandchild, Braylex Lewis.
Hazel rejoins in everlasting peace her parents, Hubert and Savilla Sane Steward; her beloved husband, JD Brewington, who predeceased her on June 21, 2018; her siblings, Sue Krites, Jene Duncan, Anna Pearl Steward, and Alvin Steward; and her grandson, Kyle Bilbrey, along with great-grandchildren Alex and Brayden Henley.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at Dyer Chapel 798 S. Willow Ave in Cookeville. Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM with Bro. Chase Fletcher officiating. Hazel's warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
