Calvin Roy Brodman, long-time resident of Yates Center, KS, passed away Monday morning, September 1, 2025. He was 102 years old.

Calvin was born August 7, 1923, a mile north of Yates Center, the son of Thomas and Emma (Bulk) Brodman. He was the oldest of five children and was the was the last of the five children. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Earl, Flossie, Glenn, and Melvin.

Calavin attended a one room schoolhouse at Mount Pisgah until 7th grade. He continued his education in Yates Center, graduating from Yates Center High School in 1941. After high school Calvin worked on the family farm, eventually buying his own.

He worked at the Woodson County CO-OP from 1951 to 1960, even sitting on the Board of Directors for a time.

On September 12, 1946, he and Melba Reynard were married. Later divorcing. They had two children, Debra and David.

On August 12, 1985, Calvin and Florence Weide were married until her death on April 2, 2004.

Calvin was a lifelong resident of Yates Center giving to the community up until his death. Calvin helped move the New York Valley Church to its current location and the Yates Center Museum in 1996. He and Florence donated many items to the museum and Calvin had served on the Board of Directors.

Calvin joined the Yates Center Senior Center in 1973 and left for a while after marrying in 1985. Later he returned and became Vice President of the Center. Calvin donated to the Center the windmill from his farm and in his honor the windmill from his farm was placed at the Senior Center.

Calvin was Past President of the Woodson County Farm Bureau.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Yates Center Cemetery.

Calvin requested any contributions of him be made the Alzheimer's Association and may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, PO Box188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
