Calvin Wiley King, age 85, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025. Born in Patrick, South Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Calvin and Viola Boan King. A devoted member of Forest Pine Independent Baptist Church, Calvin lived a life characterized by hard work and dedication.
Throughout his career, Calvin spent over 30 years working for Furr Grading & Paving, earning a reputation as a skilled "Left-handed Diesel Mechanic." His ability to fix anything was rooted in his early experiences working on the family farm, where he first demonstrated his resourcefulness by purchasing his first tractor at the age of 12. Even after retiring, Calvin remained active and continued to assist on local farms, including that of his friend, Jacqui Clarke. He was often seen driving his old blue Jeep Cherokee, pulling a grey work trailer, a familiar sight in his community.
Calvin leaves behind a loving family including his son, Eugene Andrew (Judy) Shelton of Cabot, Arkansas; daughters, April (James) Tyner of Cheraw, South Carolina, and Rose Walters of Wallace, South Carolina; and sisters, Lucy Kelly of Hartsville, South Carolina, Luon Causey of Nichols, SC, and Doris Gore of Chesterfield, South Carolina. He was proud to be a grandfather to granddaughters Frances, Jordan, Anna, and Gracie, and grandsons Calvin, Christopher, and Benjamin, as well as three great-grandchildren. He also cherished the special friendships he formed with Jacqui Clarke and Randy Deese.
Calvin was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Gwendolyn King, his parents listed above, a sister Nancy Haney, and a son-in-law Carlton Walters.
