Calvin Annanis Riggs, 65, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away October 13, 2025, at Brentwood Extended Care and Rehab.
Calvin was born November 28, 1959, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, a son of the late John Thomas (JT) Riggs, Sr. and Clifteen Ridgeway. Calvin attended Tahlequah public schools, where he excelled in track and football. He attended Connors State College and later Northeastern State University, where he was pursuing a degree in accounting, prior to joining the workforce. He worked in various places as a laborer and then began work on a ranch breaking horses.
“Lightening” or Uncle Calbo was many of the known names to family and friends. His love for horses was real. Hunting and fishing and anything outdoors were always the things he enjoyed most. Alot like his father, he was a pretty good cook! Calvin Houdini was a pool shark, he would hustle you out of a dollar for sure!
Those left to cherish his memory, his children, Fred Hall, Lanina Nolan, Calvin Riggs, Jr., Cedric Rippetoe, and Makia Louie; his siblings, Carloyn Sheppard, Kenneth Glenn Riggs, Carlette Riggs, Nadine Scoggins, and Allen Fields; grandchildren, Zane, Laveah, Yolanda, Cali, Jaydin, Keaton, and Zuriah; great grandchildren, Cairo and Nadya; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Riggs, Sr. and Clifteen Ridgeway; sisters, Mildred Risby and Marilyn Ridgeway; brothers, John Henry “Spider” Johnson, John Thomas Riggs, Jr., Larry Ridgeway, Roy Gene Riggs and James Ridgeway.
There will be a visitation, Thursday, October 23, 2025, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 24, 2025, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ross Cemetery in Tahlequah.
After the service, everyone is invited to eat dinner with the family at the Tahlequah Community Building, 908 S. College Avenue, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, 74494.
