Charley Edmond Brackett was born July 27, 1931 in Tailholt, Oklahoma to Jesse Brackett and Nellie (Gregory) Brackett. He left this life October 13, 2025 at home surrounded by family.
Charley spent his younger years working the family farm and running the hills of Tailholt, Stilwell, Wauhillau with his cousins and friends.
He met the love of his life, Katie (Tincher) and they were married November 29th, 1951. They were married 59 years at the time of her passing in 2010.
Charley's early career took his family to Fort Worth, TX, Tulsa, OK, and eventually back to settle in Tahlequah. Charley and Katie built Brackett's Rebuilders in 1974 where he rebuilt engines, auto repairs, and tinkered on cars until his retirement. He loved dirt track racing, building race cars, and just working in the shop. After he retired, he enjoyed working with his cows and in his garden. His favorite pastime was playing dominos and telling stories. Charley was always full of laughs, jokes, and had a never ending list of stories.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Katie, his parents, and all the cousins that he loved so much.
He is survived by his children Charley T Brackett and wife Louise of Tahlequah, James Brackett and wife Teresa of Tahlequah. His Grandchildren Tina Fort and husband Jimmy, Jessie Brackett and wife Jenny, Chris Brackett and wife Heather, and Steven Brackett and wife Heather. His sister Fancis Corbett and husband Raymond of Welling. As well as 14 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Special thank you to the staff at Hospice of the Cherokees for all the help and support that allowed us to keep our Papa at home.
