Calvin Lloyd Schaeffer, formerly of
Stanchfield, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Covenant Living in Golden Valley. He was 100 years old.
Born August 30, 1925, on the family farm in Stanchfield, he was the first boy following 7 girls born to Lloyd and Hattie (Anderson) Schaeffer. Two additional sisters and two brothers rounded out a family of 12 children.
Calvin enjoyed helping on the family farm in Stanchfield from the time he was a young boy, to weekends and summers during his teaching career, and following retirement when he and wife, Jane, moved back into the farmhouse.
He enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and served a tour of duty in Italy. He was assigned to work with electronics and radio communication, which laid the foundation for future schooling and a career in electronics with an emphasis in radio and television. Calvin taught many years at the Minneapolis Vocational High School and Hennepin Technical Institute in downtown Minneapolis.
Calvin and his family were active members of Edgewater Baptist Church, Minneapolis, until retirement in 1983, when they rejoined the Stanchfield Baptist Church. Following retirement from teaching in 1983, Calvin took up golfing, helping at Stanchfield church, and traveling with the Peterson brothers and their wives. Calvin and Jane enjoyed many winters in Florida and with sisters Nita and Hazel in Texas. He also enjoyed helping others with repairs, crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting, and golfing with friends and grandsons until age 99.
Calvin and Jane were married for 54 years and were blessed with 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. After Jane's death, he married Ann Moline, a lifelong friend. They lived at Covenant Village in
San Diego, CA, until Ann's death.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jane (Larson), and second wife of 11 years, Anne Moline; parents, Lloyd and Hattie (Anderson) Schaeffer; siblings, Dorothy, Hazel Lillicrop, Melba Dahlin, Violet Stork, Laura Dahlin, Julia Miller, Gertrude Johnson, Juanita Christensen, Harold Schaeffer, Ramona Fredin, and Byron Schaeffer; Son-in-law James Hansen.
Calvin is survived by his children, Deborah Hansen, Claudia (Bill) Elsham, Lloyd (Lorie), Robert, and Laurie Vonderharr; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; Ann's children, Meredith (Leslie) Gerdin, Michael (Patti) Moline, Kay Hofer, and Linda (Terry) Root and their families; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends many of whom helped to celebrate at his 100th birthday party. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Pastor Caleb officiating. The service will be live streamed to the church's Youtube. A link will be posted when available.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment and Military Honors will be in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow the services.
Memorials are preferred to the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery Fund.
