Calvin Spears Obituary
Calvin Brent Spears, a beloved figure in the Reddell community passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 in Lafayette, Louisiana at the age of 71. Brent was born on May 15, 1954, in Mamou, Louisiana and was a dedicated car salesman for a time, but spent over 20 years as a farmer, growing rice and raising cattle. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou with burial to follow in the Durio Cemetery in Oberlin.
Brent’s life was characterized by hard work and a loving spirit. He found immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren play sports and took pride in coaching their softball teams. His influence as a mentor extended beyond the family, impacting many in his community.
Brent enjoyed various hobbies that complemented his love for nature, such as hunting, fishing, driving through the woods, and watching rodeos, pursuits that connected him deeply to the land he cherished.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Dolorous "Sis" Spears; four children: Kyle Spears (Angela), Dustin Spears, Krista LeBouef (Justin), and Julie Fontenot (Luke) and 14 grandchildren: Katelyn Douget (Jared), Kyland Spears, Keradyn Spears (Tucker), Karmyn Spears, Kentyn "Sonny" Spears, Kaden LeBouef, Tannon LeBouef, Josie LeBouef, Colton LeBouef, Jenna Fontenot, Layna Fontenot, Libby Fontenot, Joni Fontenot, and Lila Fontenot. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his two great-grandchildren, Shy and Bry Douget; his brother, Todd Spears (Francine); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Brent was predeceased by his father, Robert "Sonny" Spears.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou, Louisiana, on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Brent’s memory will be honored by those left behind as they carry forward his legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family.
