Melda Jane Dupre, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Pine Prairie, Louisiana, at the age of 90. Born on Wednesday, September 11, 1935, in Mamou, Louisiana, Melda was a remarkable individual whose life was filled with love, care, and creativity.
After completing high school, Melda began her career as a nurse's aide in Crowley, where her compassionate nature shone brightly as she provided care to those in need. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to her work laid the foundation for a life devoted to service and family.
Once married, Melda embraced the roles of seamstress and homemaker, focusing on creating a warm and loving home for her family. She often enjoyed leisurely moments of "coffee time." These gatherings allowed her to connect with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and memories that will forever be held dear. Melda also found joy in quilting and knitting, which demonstrated her many talents.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria "Annie" LaFleur and husband, Mike, Belinda Blair, Patricia Gil, Catherine Gil Davis, Christine Scott and husband Bart, and Angela Gil; step son, Tim Dupre and wife, Celeste; 13 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Melda is preceded in death by her husbands, William Dillard “Dickie” Gil, Jr. and Winnis Dupre; parents, Hadley Simon and Bernice Guillory Manuel; daughter, Jeanne’ Gil; brother, Bernell Manuel; infant son, William Dillard Gil, III, and sister, Grace Delaney.
As we remember Melda, may we celebrate her life and the countless ways she touched our hearts during a graveside service which will be held at a later date.
