Calvin Milton Turner

A celebration of life for Calvin Turner, age 86 of Lindale, TX, is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th at Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Rudd officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 prior to the service.

Calvin Milton Turner, 86, went to Heaven on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He was born Sept 7, 1938, in Yoakum, TX, to Alvin & Ida Leist Turner. He graduated in 1957 from Yoakum High School and joined the US Army, serving from 1958-1960. On April 30, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Rice. He graduated from Texas A & I University in 1971. He worked for Shell Oil Co for 8 years and retired from Exxon Co after 23 years.

He lived his Christian life -Faithful to the end. He served in many churches, teaching Sunday School to children & young people & RA's Mission Organization, sang in the choir, and served as a deacon in the Baptist church for 59 1/2 years. He loved to sing and sang in a men's quartet in South Texas.

He was a real cowboy-always had a horse or two to ride, raised cows, and had a welding shop where he built many trailers. He loved the challenge of making things out of metal. Recently, he had started writing stories about his life's adventures to leave for his grandchildren. He loved to help others and served the Lord he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Rice Turner, daughter Letetia & husband Dale Beggs, Mineola, TX, grandsons Kendall & wife Megan Beggs, Winthrop, WA, Aaron & wife Madison Beggs, Lake Jackson, TX, Brian & wife Erin Beggs, Mineola, TX, twin great grandsons, Tristan Mitchell & Cyrus Turner Beggs, Winthrop, WA, two sisters, Vera Lou Knezek, Victoria, TX & Marion Orts, Moulton, TX.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin & Ida Turner, four sisters & one brother, and a daughter, Gena Lee Turner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his daughter's scholarship fund, The Gena Lee Turner Memorial Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund, Tyler Junior College, P.O. Box 9020, Tyler, TX 75711, Gideons International, Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church Building Fund, or the charity of your choice.
