Calvin McArthur Tyson, Sr. was born on March 24, 1943, to David Sr. and Bessie Tyson, in Flemington, Florida. On Monday, September 30, 2024, the death angels escorted Calvin from this earthly life to eternity with God.
Calvin accepted Christ and joined Canaan Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Marion County school system. Following school, Calvin enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years, which included a tour in Vietnam. On July 12, 1965, while home on leave, he married the love of his life, Lenora Batts.
After the military, Calvin worked in several different fields, but his career employment was with the Alachua County School Board Facilities Department as a Maintenance Foreman, for thirty years. After retirement, he continued working as a volunteer at the Malcom Randall V A Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and in his gift from God, as a carpenter. If you travel around Marion, Alachua, Miami-Dade and many other counties in Florida, you will run into lots of Calvin's handiwork. He built houses, cabinets, church furniture, sheds, bedroom sets, dining room sets, tables, chairs, etc. etc.!
Calvin McArthur Tyson, Sr., leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of over 59 years: Lenora Tyson. One daughter, Shirley Robinson, FL. One son: Calvin M. Tyson, Jr. (Kelly) all of Flemington, FL. Four Granddaughters: Sabrina (Tony) Mitchell of Flemington, FL, Calee Tyson of Apopka, FL, Caitlin Tyson, of Ocala, FL, and Gianna Tyson, of Coral Springs, FL. One grandson: Deontae Jenkins, of Flemington, FL. Two great-grandsons: Jamarious Mitchell and Jaleel Mitchell both of Flemington, FL. One sister-in-law: Helen Tyson of Neptune, NJ. Three goddaughters: Beverly Tyson Jamerson (Kenneth, Sr.) of Reddick, FL, Melissa Patterson of Citra, FL and Tonya (Shawn) Nunn of Belleview, FL., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents: David Tyson, Sr. & Bessie Tyson. His daughter: Linda Tyson. Four brothers: Eddie B. Tyson, Freddy Tyson, Otis Tyson, Sr., and David Tyson, Jr. Five sisters: Ruth Tyson, Lila Mae Tyson Winfield, Edith Tyson, Beulah Tyson, and Carolyn Tyson Williams. One godson: Ronald Williams.
