Candice K. "Candy" Wheeler, 73, of Erie, and a former Parsons Lake area resident, passed away at 9:19 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2024, in the Labette Health Emergency room at Parsons.
She was born on February 5, 1951, at Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin to Robert and Rosemary (Ames) Clarenson. Candy grew up in Arkansas and attended schools there.
Candy lived in various places in Neosho County before making her home at Lake Parsons. She worked at Cobalt Boats as one of the first female supervisors, and managed the Popingo Video Store in Parsons.
Candy enjoyed gardening, hummingbirds, sewing, quilting, making wedding bouquets, singing karaoke, antiques, going to garage sales, camping, and fishing. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs Fan. Candy adored her family and was devoted to taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved living at Lake Parsons, and cared for her friends as if they were family including longtime neighbors and friends, the Page family.
She and Ted Wheeler were married on April 17, 1969, at Chanute. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2005. It was often said that there was only one man on earth that could handle Candy, and that was Ted.
She is survived by her daughter, Jody Burzinski, and her husband, Thad of rural Cherryvale; her son, Richard "Rick" Stowell Wheeler of Parsons; her grandchildren, Haley Stowell, Whitney (Bobby) Norwood, Lauren (Daniel) Fails, Camie Wheeler, Skylar Burzinski, and Eli Burzinski; her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Kayvin, Kyson, Blake, Mason, Dani, and Easton; her brothers, Robert "Bobby" Clarenson of Erie and Doug Clarenson, and his wife, Linda of Parsons; two sisters, Sandra "Sandy" Davis, and her husband, Howard of Shawnee, OK and Tammy Bailey, and her husband, Jeff of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Johnny Joe Wheeler and Billy Joe Wheeler.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024, at South Center Cemetery rural Thayer. Friends and family are invited to wear KC Chiefs gear in honor of one last powwow. Friends who wish may come to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home to sign the register and view the tribute video on Thursday. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
