Carl Ray Armstrong of
Moberly, MO., passed away on May 3, 2025 at the Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, MO, surrounded by family. He was born in Monroe County,MO to John and Nettie {Long} Armstrong.
Carl was married to Erma Jean (Mitchell) Armstrong and they were the parents of two sons, Mitchell Shane Armstrong (Tiffany) and Jamie Ray Armstrong. Grandchildren are Alli Armstrong, Chris Armstrong, Emily (Brandon) Boyer and one great-grandchild, Rowyn Adley Jean Boyer. Step-grandchildren are Shawn (Natalie) Geralds, Trent (Camyron) Asher, Ravyn (Luke) Burry and step-great-grandchildren, Savannah Burry and Elias Geralds. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Parrish of Albuquerque, N.M., sisters-in-law, Louise Armstrong, Paris, MO, Corene Dale, Cairo, MO,Connie Mitchell,
Moberly, MO.and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, J. C. Armstrong and Clayton Armstrong, his parents-in-law, James & Hertha Mitchell, brothers-in-law, Leslie Mitchell, Roy Dale & Leon Parrish.
Carl was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was song leader for many years. He had a beautiful voice and sang at several weddings, funerals and was with the Gospel Strings, who sang at Assisted Living and Nursing Homes. He was a member of the Gideons. Carl graduated fromTarkio College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree and held a dual major in Criminal Justice and Business Management. He enjoyed hunting and made several trips to Colorado elk hunting with friends and enjoyed watching Gunsmoke on TV. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and had been to all 50 states, as well as to Europe on a WW II Battlefield Tour. He especially enjoyed taking the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Carl enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard and while stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, he was a member of the Honor Guard there. In 1974,he went full-time with the N.G. He became an active-duty Recruiter in 1980. MSG Carl R. Armstrong was honorably discharged and retired October 31, 2001. He was named "Recruiter of the Year" for the State of Missouri in 1995 and was one of the "Chiefs 50" who made the trip to Washington, D.C. for the "Chiefs 50" military awards ceremony. There was one Recruiter of the Year from all 50 states, thus called "Chiefs 50."In December 2003, two years after retiring, Carl went to work for Military Personnel Services, as a civilian, running a family assistance center for Northeast and Central Missouri. In July 2005, he became a Recruiting Operations & Training Specialist for recruiters and stayed in that position until 2008. Carl was also a Registered Representative for Ozark National selling Mutual Funds from 1978 - 1981.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday, May 9, 2025, 4 - 7 P.M. at the Cater Funeral Home. Funeral Services and Military Honors, honoring and celebrating Carl's life will be Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1:00P.M. at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. A private committal prayer and burial will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Mo.
