Carl Lewis Canon, 93, of Copley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. He was born on October 24, 1930 in Greenville, PA. to Helen M. (Hays) Canon and Rex H. Canon.
When Carl was young, the family moved to Kinsman in Trumbull County, Ohio where he graduated from Kinsman High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and was proud to have served in the Infantry with the 5th Regimental Combat Team, Heavy Mortar Co. during the Korean War. He participated in the break out of the Pusan Perimeter and other major engagements taking him to the northern most regions of North Korea between 1950 and 1951.
He met his wife, Agnes M. Schueller of Greene, OH. in 1955 and they married on November 15, 1958, enjoying 61 years of marriage. His precious wife proceeded him in death in 2020.
After his discharge from the Army, Carl attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and later a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Akron.
Carl was employed by The Mount Vernon Bridge Co., The Vogt & Conant Co. and retired with over 30 years of service with Babcock & Wilcox Co in Barberton, Ohio. During his working career, he was a Registered Professional Engineer in six states.
After retiring from B&W, Carl was employed by the Sharon Golf Club in Sharon Center for 22 years. He enjoyed many happy moments with his family and traveling the world with his wife. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing tuba in the New Horizon Band. Carl was also a member of the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 138 and a life member of the Firestone VFW Post 3383.
Besides his wife and parents, Carl was also preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Mae Peterson and Dorothy Cator. He is survived by his daughter Erin K. (George) Schroeder, Strongsville, Ohio, son Kyle L. (Brigid) Canon, Medina, Ohio, grandchildren Jessica and Jonathan (Claire) Schroeder and Katelyn and Brenden Canon.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Hummel Funereal Home, 3475 Copley Road, Copley, OH 44321. At the family's request the burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KWVA, Chapter 138, PO Box 4788, Akron, OH 44310.
