Carl Ellison Cornwall was born May 25, 1942, in Wenatchee, Washington, to Francis and Doris Cornwall. He passed away on September 16, 2025, in Boise, Idaho, with family present.
Carl grew up in the agricultural communities of Yakima Valley, WA. He attended Moxee schools, graduating in 1960 with classmates who are still close friends.
In 1961, Carl joined his family on the Royal Slope. There, neighbor Doug Snodgrass tried to introduce his sister, Carol, to our hero. After several failed attempts, Carl did the deed himself, saving his damsel in distress from an uncooperative siphon tube. Romance blossomed, and Carl married Carol Snodgrass on October 20, 1962. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple a year later. They attended Central Washington State College where Carl graduated with a degree in Health and Phys.Ed.
The ensuing years were filled with more school for the couple and the building of a family as they welcomed their children, Keli, Kevin, and Craig. After teaching and coaching for 10 years, Carl left his career in education and embarked on a number of endeavors including mining and trucking, always keeping space for another lifelong love, farming and ranching.
Carl’s faith was extremely important to him, and he served in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite areas of service were Boy Scout leadership and temple service.
In 2011, after years of good health, Carl was diagnosed with cancer. Carol supported him through 2 years of treatment, including a stem cell transplant. The family was thrilled to have had 12 more years with him after that close call.
Carl is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter Keli (Cleeo), and sons Kevin (Heather) and Craig (Morgan), along with 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and counting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Doris, and his sister, Jody Urdahl.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Northview Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6711 Northview St., Boise, ID.
