Carl F. Davino born November 29, 1945, in Waterbury, CT, to Antoinette (Dinah) Goffredo Davino and Ralph F. Davino was lost to his loved ones March 16, 2011.
Carl was a graduate of Waterbury’s Kaynor Tech. High School. Upon graduation Carl spent eight years in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Hof, Germany, Taiwan, China, Bien Hoa Air Force Base Republic of Vietnam and Elgin Air Force base in Florida.
Carl received numerous Commendations during his military career. On May 27, 1967 Carl received an Air Force Commendation Medal for administering mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to an airman having an epileptic seizure. In 1968 while stationed at Shou Lin Kou Air Station in Taiwan, Carl received a Certificate of Merit from Sun Yun Hsuan, Minister, Republic of China for his brave behavior of participating in the rescue operation of a crashed jetliner saving the lives of several people.
In 1968, Carl arrived in Vietnam just days before the Tet offensive and served 18 months of duty. While there Carl received his First and Second Oak Leaf Cluster Commendation Medals for meritorious service as an Electrical Power Production Specialist. In 1971 while stationed at Elgin Air Force received his third Oak Leaf Cluster Commendation for meritorious service as a Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the navigational aid generator maintenance crew .
Carl returned to civilian life mid-1971. He started an 11 year career with Southern New England Telephone Company and was a building maintenance supervisor when he resigned. Carl met his wife, Barbara, at the phone company and in 1982 they decided to relocate to Hobe Sound, Florida on a new Career path. Their first career venture was BCD Lock Safe & Security that evolved into Electronic Security, Inc. In 1994 they built a storage facility. Hand-in-hand they achieved a comfortable life-style for themselves.
Carl was a life-time member of Knights of Columbus, Waterbury, CT, Hobe Sound VFW and Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce and served as its president in 1990 and 1991. He is a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International, past president of Hobe Sound/Port Salerno Rotary Club. He served numerous years on the Executive Committee of the Alarm Association of Florida;. His committee work included establishing statewide codes for the various Police and Fire Chiefs throughout Florida. He went to serve on a broadened committee that encompassed numerous other states that recognized the value of common codes statewide. Carl is also a member of the Associated Locksmiths of America, Safe and Vault Technicians Association and the Florida Self [Storage Association .
Carl is survived his by his wife, Barbara Porto Davino, his sister, Antioninette Davino of Yarmouth, Maine; his brothers, Ralph, Jr, of Hobe Sound, Frederick of Naugatuck, Ct, and Michael of Waterbury, Ct.
A Memorial will be celebrated Monday, March 21, at 11:00am at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 1200 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound.
