Carl Dougherty, 89, of Northfield, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 29,2025 at Mercy Hospital-Unity Campus in Fridley, Minnesota.
Carl Raymond Dougherty was born January 27, 1936 to Eugene and Pearl (Curry) Dougherty in Butterfield, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 8th, 1941 and was confirmed April 8th, 1962. The youngest of nine, he graduated from highschool in Rolf, lowa in 1955 after which he joined the Army. He was in the National Guard 125 Artillery Battalion July 1954-February 1956. In February 1956 he served as a soldier in the 8th division where he spent most of his time stationed in Germany in the Airborne 504 battle group, completing 23 jumps and 2 free falls. He was discharged from the Army in August 1959.
He married Adonna (Donni) Schlomann in December of 1960. Carl and Donni had 4 children together before they divorced. Carl worked for Bolin Lumber, Breckenridge Trucking and Q-Carriers as a truck driver and mechanic. In June of 1999, he married Roselitha Kisgen. After he retired in 2000 Carl and Rose drove buses for Coach Crafters. He enjoyed camping, gardening and hobby farming.
His greatest joy was spending time with relatives and staying in contact with them. He always made time to chat and could find something to talk about with anyone. He truly lived his life the way he wanted.
He is survived by daughter, Lynda (Mark) Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, Craig Dougherty of Northfield; Amy (Eric Thiewes) Dougherty of Northfield; step-children Debbie Sheperesky, Alaska; Julie (Jim) Reed of Rochester, Allen Kisgen of North Pole, Alaska; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife, and son Curt Dougherty.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at Bierman, Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation starts at 1 pm prior to the funeral service. A reception will follow at 4 pm at the L & M Bar in Dundas. Interment will be held privately at the Butterfield Cemetery in Butterfield.
