Carl Denton Harbin

Carl Denton Harbin, 86, of East Tawas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1939, in Calvin, Kentucky. He grew up in Pineville, Kentucky, and later moved to Michigan where he worked in the farm fields before getting a job at Farmer Jack Supermarkets and working his way up to management. Later, he moved to Whittemore and owned and operated Harbins IGA for seven years. Carl sold the store and moved to East Tawas to work at Tawas Tool. He retired from Tawas Tool after 20 years, where he made many lasting friendships. Carl enjoyed going to farm auctions, buying antique furniture. He would refinish the furniture and sell it at the antique shows.

No one can forget his meticulous yard, southern charm, and we can't forget his bib overalls. He is survived by his wife, Jean Harbin, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. He is loved by his 3 children, Carlene (Terry) Arion, Cindy (Tim) Harbin, and Chip (Jean) Harbin; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and his sister, Jauana Hoskins. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Iosco County Medical Care Facility for their compassionate care. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned at this time.
