Carl L. Hastie, 83, of Scio, passed away on September 20, 2025, following a period of declining health.
Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Carl was the son of the late Lawrence Vincent and Gertrude Paulene (Brown) Hastie. After earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education, Carl dedicated his professional life to serving students and families in the New Philadelphia City Schools as both a history teacher and middle school principal. A devoted member of Kiwanis International since March 31, 1984, Carl served faithfully for over 45 years, including in key leadership roles such as club president and secretary. His outstanding service was recognized with the Hixson Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by Kiwanis.
In addition to Kiwanis, Carl was actively involved in the Ohio Retired Teachers Association (ORTA), the Atwood Yacht Club, B.P.O.E. #510, and the New Philadelphia Quaker Club.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in passing by his nephew, Jeffrey Scott.
He is survived by his brother, Paul Hastie; his nieces, Erin (Bruce) Ross and Colleen (John) Mancuso; and his significant other, Barbara Palmer of Scio.
