Carl E. Hollenbach, 83, of Perry Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was the husband of Carolyn B. (Dreibelbis) Hollenbach. They were married on June 22, 1968 and celebrated fifty-six years of marriage.
Born in Upper Tulpehocken Twp., he was the son of the late Miles D. and Lillian (Kauffman) Hollenbach. Carl was a graduate of Bethel High School. Dairy farming was Carl's lifelong passion. His family was chosen as the 1985 Reading Fair Farm Family. He enjoyed hunting at Trestle Hollow in Tioga County and deep sea fishing was a beloved pastime with friends. Cracker Barrel guests and employees looked forward to his antics while handing out candy canes to children in his Santa hat and white fluffy beard for every holiday season. Carl loved to frequent auctions in search of his next antique to add to his collection. He was a loyal Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan enjoying a great football victory on his final day.
Carl was a member of PA Guernsey Breeders Association, PA Farm Bureau, Virginville Grange, Blue Mt. Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Strausstown and Northkill Rod & Gun Clubs, Reading Liederkranz, Grundsau Lodge Versammlinge of PA, and Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. He served as an Upper Tulpehocken Township Auditor for thirty-five years. Carl also obtained his single engine pilot license in 1973.
Surviving in addition to his wife Carolyn are his children: Susan T. (Hollenbach), wife of Brian Blatt, Greenwich Twp.; Amy L. Hollenbach, partner of Matthew Fisher, West Lawn; and Daniel J. Hollenbach, husband of Amanda, Windsor Twp.; and four grandchildren: Ayla and Mackenzie Blatt; and Anthony and Grayson Hollenbach. Carl is also survived by his sisters: Esther Sweigart, widow of Ralph; Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; Helen Shirey, widow of Walter, Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; and Fay Daub, wife of Donald, Bethel.
Services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Saturday 10:30 to 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions may be sent to Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders Association, 190 Seal Road, Eighty Four, PA 15330. Carl was always a welcome sight at Trestle Hollow Camp. His stories and knowledge of the area always made for good conversation around the woodstove. He will be missed by many.
