Carl B. Hooks Jr.

Carl Boyd Hooks Jr., 85, of New Castle, passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at his residence. Born March 25, 1938, in Brackenridge, he was the son of the late Viola M. and Carl Boyd Hooks Sr. Carl married the love of his life, Velvet (Smith) Hooks, on March 31, 1967. She resides at home. After graduating from Har-Brack High School, Mr. Hooks enrolled in the Army Reserves where he served as a sergeant in the Military Police. He was the supervisor of Salaried Employment at Allegheny Ludlum Steel, where he worked for over 30 years. Carl was a member of First Church of God. Among his many interests, Mr. Hooks enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. What he truly loved most was watching his own grandchildren play sports. He was also very fond of the time he would spend with family during vacations to the beach. In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by one son, Robert C. Hooks, of Shenango Township; one daughter, Amy (Bill) Kunst, of Butler; five grandchildren, Megan (Matt Ordille) Kunst of Catonsville, MD, Rob (Emily) Kunst of New York, New York, Jenna (fiance Aaron Smith) Kunst of Erie, PA, Grason Hooks and Talen Hooks of Shenango Township, and one great-grandson, Leo Ordille.lineAlong with his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kimberli Scrim- Hooks; and brother, Edward Leroy Hooks. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105. A service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Robert Smith will be officiating.
