Carl Less

Carl E. Less, age 92 of Manistique, Michigan passed away on January 4th, 2026, at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

Carl was born September 29, 1933, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Albert and Theresa Less.

He graduated from Davison High School in 1951, and attended General Motors Institute from 1958–1962, in Flint, Michigan.

He married Annie G. Robertson in 1953, and they were united in marriage until her death in 2004.

Carl was a veteran, serving in the US Army from 1953–1955 in the 29th Topographic Engineer Battalion, Army Map Service, stationed in Tokyo, Japan.

He began his employment as an iron worker and later transitioned to his long career as a highly skilled toolmaker with General Motors. He also dedicated 15 years of service to the GM-UAW Joint Human Resource Attendance Program. He retired in 1991.

He was also active in UAW local 1292, having held multiple offices during his career. He received the Walter P. Reuther Distinguished Service Award from the International UAW.

After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Manistique, Michigan. Carl designed and had built a barrier-free home for his disabled wife and himself.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and designing homes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister Lois Mathews, and nephew David Less.

He is survived by his brother Albert (Bernardine) Less, nephew James (Mary) Less, other nieces and nephews, and all who called him Uncle Carl.

Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, January 14th, at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Manistique, Michigan. Visitation will be held at 10am, with mass beginning at 11am.
