Charles Schnurer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fausett Family Funeral Homes-Manistique on Mar. 17, 2026.
Charles (Chuck) John Schnurer, 85, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, with his family by his side.

Born on February 7, 1941, in Manistique, Michigan, Chuck was the son of Vertal and Helen (Watson) Schnurer. He took great pride in being born and living his entire life on his family's land, a place that grounded him and connected him deeply to his roots. Chuck married Sally Miller in 1959, and together they shared 66 years of devoted marriage, enjoying countless adventures traveling and fishing side by side throughout the years.

After graduating from Manistique High School in 1959, Chuck began his career working at Manistique Dimensions alongside his father, who was the foreman. He later became an auto mechanic for his uncle, Mark Schnurer, owner of the Rambler Dealership, where he developed his lifelong love of automobiles and engine repair. Chuck went on to work for Inland Lime and Stone for over 25 years, holding positions as a blacksmith and bulldozer operator.

Chuck found great joy in fishing along the Manistique River, grouse hunting, and simply spending time outdoors. He had a deep love of nature, often feeding wild deer from his hand and taking time to enjoy the beauty of the Upper Peninsula. Chuck was known for being witty and sharp, always ready with a clever remark. He was also an amazing checkers player, rarely bested by friends or family.

He loved spending time with his family and friends and had a lifelong passion for restoring tractors. Among his favorite projects were the restoration of his Uncle Fred's 1947 Silver King tractor and the installation of a V8 engine into an E3 CO-OP tractor, which he proudly showcased in Manistique's 4th of July parades. Always generous with his time and talents, Chuck was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sally; their children, Deborah Schnurer of Brillion, WI, and Bob (Jill) Schnurer of De Pere, WI; and grandchildren, Kristin (Nathan) VandenWymelenberg of Sherwood, WI, and Stephen (Rebecca) Schnurer of Greenleaf, WI. He is also lovingly remembered by his six great-grandchildren: Madelyn Schnurer, Lillyan VandenWymelenberg, Evalyn VandenWymelenberg, Layla Schnurer, Cora VandenWymelenberg, and Ryker Schnurer.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; his brothers-in-law, Carey Farley and Sylvester Rubick; and dear family friend Barbara Sparpana.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the Medical Care Facility for their kind and compassionate care of Chuck over the past three years.

Fausett Family Funeral Homes, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 20th. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM with a service to follow at 6:00 PM, officiated by Doug Troyer, a lifelong family friend. Interment will take place in the spring, when Chuck will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
