Leroy Finton Obituary
He was born on February 20, 1946, in Palo Alto, California, to Leroy Arthur Finton, Sr. and Lena Christina (Larson) Finton. Leroy graduated from William Kelley High School in Silver Bay, Minnesota and ventured to college to earn a degree in Physics.
In 1966, Leroy enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served 3 years, the highlight while stationed at Marine Corp Base Twenty-Nine Palms in California. He was a high performer, earning the marksman ribbon as a rifleman, assigned as a system maintainer on the Avenger System, and a successful tenure on the Marine Corp Swim Team. He was honorably discharged in January 1969, returning to Minnesota thereafter.
Leroy went on to work and retire as a technician with Lockheed Martin: a government contractor specializing in weapons and airframe development. He spent much of his life in Puyallup, Washington, before moving to the Manistique area in 2026.
Leroy had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He was passionate about genealogy and had a love for vintage books. He enjoyed collecting rocks and took pride in landscaping around his home.
He is survived by his brother, Robert (Debbie) Finton of Manistique, MI; sister, Joann DeLeo of Gilroy, CA; and 3 nieces and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sanja Finton on October 20, 2025; and brothers, Roger and Ronald Finton.
Leroy will be remembered for his curiosity, subtle yet memorable humor, dedication to his country, and the quiet pride he took in his work and home.
The family has chosen to remember Leroy privately. Memorial donations in Leroy's honor may be given to charities of choice.
