Services to remember and celebrate the life of Carl "Dean" Lewis will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Chelsea. Burial will follow at Winganon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 on Sunday at the funeral home with family there to receive visitors. Dean passed away at his home on Monday, December 4, 2023. He was 74.
Dean was one of twelve children born to William Calvin Sr. and Della (Underhill) Lewis. Dean's father always said "one man could take care of twelve children but that twelve children couldn't take care of one man." It was a quote that Dean would share with his children throughout his life. Dean was born at home on September 24, 1949 in Broken Arrow, OK. He was raised and educated in the Broken Arrow area and graduated from Union High School. Dean provided for his family in several different careers. He was a truck driver, sold real estate and was a butcher. On September 30, 2005, Dean married the love of his life Cheri Flanders in Miami, OK. They became a blended family with five children.
A true man's man; Dean loved the outdoors. He hunted and fished, and even lived by the motto: "if it moved or was eatable or a nuisance, he hunted it." He enjoyed the wild hog hunts in Texas and was an accomplished team roper. Motorcycles were a huge part of his life and he enjoyed just getting on his and riding. It did not matter that there was not a destination point; it was just being outside and the ride. His family even said that; to Dean, family time was when everyone was together getting caught up on a few projects around the house.
Dean was a man of integrity. A quality that was important to Dean and he instilled that same quality in his children. If he told you something you could rest assured it would happen. Dean set a very high bar, if you will; and he expected all his family to meet those expectations. Dean also set an example for those around him. When trials of life came his way, they became challenges to overcome. No story of Dean would be complete unless he were to tell you the "moral of the story" as he would often mention when telling you a story. He was a man that did everything wide open.
A man that spent his whole life giving to and providing for his family. Dean has left a huge legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and countless friends. Dean is survived by his wife Cheri, children, Willy Dean Lewis and wife Christa, Jamie Mack Lewis, Scooter Don Lewis, Matthew Ryan Flanders and Elizabeth Ann Flanders, grandchildren, Lori and husband Takatoshi, Lacey and husband Jacob, Christian, Dakodah, Blake, Kolby, Larame and wife Brianne, Levi and wife Erin, Dylan, Jayden, Aubrey, 8 great grandchildren, brothers, Jim Lewis and wife Mary, Bill Lewis, sisters-in-law, Bobbie Lewis and Judy Lewis, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Everett, John, Jerry, Donnie and an infant brother, sisters, Francis, Juanita, Virginia, and Margie.
