Carl Andrew Libs, 87, Peachtree Corners, GA peacefully passed away on December 22, 2024, at 11:38 pm at home.
Carl Andrew Libs was born on January 15, 1937, in Floyds Knobs, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl Hector Libs and Virginia Mae (Young). Growing up in the farming community of Floyds Knobs he spent much time learning the value of hard work, determination, and value of family. He is survived by his siblings Sharon (Nieho Morton, and Barbara (Lynch).
Carl graduated in 1955 from New Albany High School and then immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country with pride from 1955 to 1964.
Following three tours in Japan with the Marine Corps as an Aviation Radio Technician, he moved his career to the civilian side working more than 30 years in the IT industry. His career took him abroad where he met the love of his life, Sompon Libs.
Carl and Sompon married in 1968 and moved often due to his work while raising their three boys. They finally settled down in Gwinnett County, GA in 1980. He was a strong man and devoted husband, raising his boys to understand the value of loyalty and strength to lead their own families. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and prospecting for gold. The time spent with his boys active in the Boy Scouts of America were some of his favorite memories. He was passionate about his boys and their sports growing up, encouraging them and cheering them whenever his work schedule allowed.
Carl was handy and could fix almost anything you put in front of him. He was great at home repairs and never hesitated to help his kids with their own homes even as recently as 2019. He was tough and extremely frugal where he chose to spend his dollars. He didn't need new and fancy, he in fact preferred used and functional. Carl was never a man of a few words! He always had a pocket of stories to share and never met a stranger! He would find his social hours quenched with walks around local hardware stores and grocery isles eyeing clearance deals and treats for grandkids.
Carl was a pillar to the family and well respected by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sompon; his three sons and their wives Hector Anthony and Diana Libs, Philip Samuel and Caroline Libs, Howard James, and Katharine Libs; his 13 grandchildren Vanessa, Adrien, Allyson, Carleen, Jacob, Brett, William, Keegan, Remington, Aja, Charlotte-Anne, Nisa, and Finnley; and one great-grandchild Silas with another due in March 2025.
Private viewing will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be sent to The Boy Scouts of America in memory of Carl A. Libs.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth is assisting the family with arrangements.
