John W. Libs, 83, of Evansville, passed away peacefully Monday, July 21, 2025 at the Heritage Center. He was born May 13, 1942 in Corydon, Indiana to the late John G. and Loraine W. (Wells) Libs.
John served as captain of the football team at Memorial High School where he graduated in 1960. He was a graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans in 1964. John served in the United States Army as a ranger during the Vietnam War and participated in intense combat. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and a Purple Heart for his bravery. Following his service to our country, John worked for JennAir and Mead Johnson before returning to Evansville in 1987 to help run the family business, "Libs Candy." He retired from Best Buy in 2020. John enjoyed spending time golfing, building model cars and painting.
John is survived by his wife, Judi Freson (Kavanaugh) Libs; son, Ryan Libs; brother, Michael Libs; sister, Becky (Bob) Sharp; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Henneberger.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the funeral home with Pastor Rankin Wilbourne officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club at the graveside.
Memorial contributions may be made to Reitz Memorial High School, 1500 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
