Carl "Skip" Mattson, 67, of Johns Island, passed away on May 3, 2023.
From the Rhode Island Quonnie Shore where he grew up to the Monaco, Grand Prix, Carl enjoyed traveling with his wife, Cheryl, driving along winding countryside roads or sailing in Clipperships and 12 - Meter America Cups.
An avid tennis player, Carl also loved all things ocean: swimming, sailing, and boating. Quick to laugh, with a dry sense of humor, Carl was always interested in what others had to say, and formed many lasting friendships.
Carl leaves his beloved wife, Cheryl; their dog; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.
Friends and family will be invited to Celebrations of Life at Kiawah Island, SC and Quonnie, RI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation (http://fidelco.org), the MUSC Foundation (http://giving.musc.edu), or any ocean related nonprofits.
Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Hi Cheryl, the news of Skip´s passing was a shocker. I´ve always thought of Skip as a strong man and a lifelong friend. We had so many great times and memories together. His death will leave a hole in my life as I´m sure he will do to you. He was a wonderful friend and a thoughtful person. His passing has made me think of all the stupid and dangerous things I do that I should think twice about.
My thoughts are with you at this time as you navigate through this period of loss. I pray God will help you deal with his passing and allow you to find peace and purpose.
He will be terribly missed by all that knew Skip and enjoyed his friendship.
