Carl Michael Mazzarelli Jr.

Carl Michael Mazzarelli, Jr., age 78, of Wilmington, DE passed away on November 27th, 2025. Born in Wilmington, Carl was the son of the late Mary (Kuzian) and Carl Michael Mazzarelli, Sr. He graduated from St. Elizabeth's High School and began a 40-year career with the Delaware National Guard, serving as Operations Officer and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Carl was an avid University of Delaware Football fan, frequenting nearly every home game. He also enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees and St. Elizabeth's football, in addition to coaching football with his brother-in-law, Charles Muzzi, at Holy Angels Catholic School. He enjoyed visiting Bethany Beach with his family, spending time in his garden, and was a member of the Defiance Men's Club. Carl loved spending time with his three children, but really "hit the jackpot" with his beloved six grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlene (Muzzi) Mazzarelli; his children and their spouses, Carl Michael III and Emily Mazzarelli, Marybeth and Michael Horgan, and Daniel and Jenna Mazzarelli; his grandchildren, Carlo, Dominic, Sophia, Elena, Liza, and Lexi; and his brother, Michael Mazzarelli; and his in-laws, William Muzzi, Michael Muzzi, and Mary Catherine Fitzpatrick. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Carl, and his sister, Carol Everett.
A visitation will be held on Thursday December 4th from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church Athletic Association, 7200 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE 19707.
