Carl J. Osburn

Carl J. Osburn, 102, of Lavalette, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3, 2025 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV with Elders Tony Clay, Roger Maynard, Tommy Damron and Greg Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Mays Cemetery, Lavalette with full military honors performed by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. He was born August 18, 1923 at Wayne, WV, a son of the late Sammy and Verna Berry Osburn. Carl retired from the Maintenance Department of the Huntington VA Medical Center. He was a member of the Echo United Baptist Church, having served several years as treasurer. Carl sang in various quartets over the years and was a member of the church choir. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Infantry Division in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. Carl was wounded in action in Italy and received the Purple Heart Medal, and later was a Prisoner of War (POW) in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by all of his siblings, Bruce (Lelia) Osburn, Pearl Osburn, Irvin (Bessie) Osburn, Roscoe (Nell) Osburn, Sylvia (Mack) Booten, Opal (Edgar) Adkins, Scott (Virginia) Osburn, Maxine (Willard) Kuhn, Dorothy (Norman) Adkins, and Betty Louise (Johnny) Burks. Survivors include his loving wife, Emma Mathis Osburn of Lavalette; several nieces, nephews friends and extended family members. Visitation with various groups singing will be held from 6 to 9 Tuesday evening at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne.
