Carl Pearson Obituary

CARL ALBIN PEARSON
August 8, 1937 ˜ September 24, 2023

Carl Albin Pearson was born on a 66-acre farmhouse on Aug. 8, 1937, in Good Hope, WA. He’s a son of Axel and Elida Pearson, both Swedish immigrants who came to America by way of Oakes, ND, with Axel’s brother, Magnus. Carl was baptized at Augustine Lutheran Church and attended Battle Ground High School.

In his youth, Carl helped maintain the family farm, milking cows and working a team of draft horses to till the land. He caught his first trout at the Manor Bridge in Salmon Creek and was an avid fisherman throughout his life. After graduating high school in 1948, Carl took a job at the lumber mill in Vancouver on Lower River Road. After the mill closed, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1962.

Through the GI bill, he graduated with a degree in geology and took a job with the Bureau of Land Management. With BLM, he traveled all around the Northwest back country surveying and mapping the land. When Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980, he was one of the few people to survey the mountain by helicopter, flying over the rim of the recently formed crater.

He loved music, especially Bluegrass. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, bird watching and listening to the KMUN Scandinavian Hour. He loved watching sports and was a huge Seattle Mariners fan. He also spent many years as the scorekeeper for Fort Vancouver High School basketball. He loved the Oregon coast, especially Rockaway Beach where he spent many days fishing, photographing the scenery and visiting with friends. And of course, he loved donuts and hanging out with his pals at the Donut Nook.

Family meant a lot to Carl and he married his life partner, Lori, and was blessed to have two children, Carlo (Christina) and Claire (Brandon); and two grandchildren, Olivia and Rex. He spent lots of time caring for his extended family on Lori’s side, Nanay, Letty, Virginia, Rufina, Delia, Dencio, Amy (Spencer), Andy (Caroline) and their children, Leo and Louie. He loved his dog, Nemo.

Carl was a caring and loving human being and friend who saw the humanity in everyone, and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He was an amazing husband, father, uncle and friend. May his soul be at peace and his kindness rewarded in heaven.

We greatly appreciate the care and support provided by Kami’s Kaiser Hospice team.

I met Uncle Carl shortly after Jesse & I got married. While showing us his favourite outdoor spots of Oregon, he told us about the kindness his high school best friend gave him, and he wept! A demonstrative Scandinavian! That's my uncle in a nutshell! He is all about loving his family & friends, while delighting in nature. Uncle Carl: you loved us well! Thank you! Love, Merry and Jesse

Carl was always so kind to my family when we would go camping at Barview campground near his beach house. Loretta would make egg rolls and Carl would bring firewood and tell us the best places to catch a fish. He will be remembered and loved. Prayers for you Loretta and your family. ❤Candi and Jim

Carl was a great guy. I always enjoyed bumping into him at BiMart on Lucky Number Tuesday.
My sympathies to Loretta and the Pearson family.
He will be missed.

I knew Mr. Pearson for 30+ years, having grown up a few blocks away and befriending his son, Carlo. Mr. Pearson was the very embodiment of kindness. I always learned something from every interaction, as he truly enjoyed taking the time to share his vast knowledge and experience in a meaningful way.

I will always be grateful for his generosity in hosting our first boys trip to their beach house with Carlo, our buddy Derrek, and I during high school. It was the first of many trips that helped the three of us in forging a lifelong friendship and bond. Mr. Pearson taught us about nature, shared a few old movies, and picked up pizza. It was a great time and one of my best memories.

Sadness to learn of Carl´s passing. He and I were classmates at BG schools, graduating in 1955. We remained friends over the years. I was honored to take care of his grandchildren as a pediatrician in Vancouver. We often met and relived old times at Bi-Mart. I miss him. Calvin Clark, MD
