Carl Rasmussen

 

 

Lewis Carl Rasmussen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on June 5, 2023. 

 

Carl was born on July 18, 1933 to Ivan and Etta Rasmussen and spent his formative years growing up in Fountain Green, Utah. After high school Carl joined the United States Navy and served from 1952-1956. He especially enjoyed his time serving in Japan. Carl went on to attend Snow College, then graduated from Utah State University’s engineering program. From there, he worked as a Highway Engineer on many Utah roadways, most notably Highway 6. Later in life he worked in Sales, with most of his years at Beehive International. Inc. 

 

On September 7, 1955 Carl married the love of his life Gayle Ann Bailey and they lived in Mesa Arizona, where they made many friends for life. They settled down in Bountiful, Utah where they built their life and their family. 

 

Carl was the definition of a gentleman, his passion for family poured from him as he interacted with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. There were not many basketball, soccer, football, or baseball games where you did not see Grandpa Carl’s face in the crowd smiling and cheering with vigor. Similarly with piano recitals, graduations, birthdays, weddings and the rest, there was no one more excited to be in attendance than Grandpa Carl, and this was never more evident than when a certain tune would get him on the dance floor. Supporting his grandchildren in their growth, passions, and life events were some of his greatest joys. 

 

Carl enjoyed family holidays and created gatherings that illustrate his undying compassion and love for everyone around him. The Easter gatherings in Bear Lake were among his favorite times as his children came together with their families. Extreme Easter basket hunts, friendly competition, hot tub and sauna chats, and the occasional tumble on the beach highlighted these trips. He was commonly found looking for an arm-wrestling challenger or for someone he could help. No trip was complete without his daily wheat cereal for the whole crew. As host of the Christmas morning breakfast, Grandpa Carl would once again bring family together to shower everyone with love and food. The health nut in him was always trying to talk someone into drinking his blended vegetable shake or showing off his undeniably impressive biceps. It was never a surprise when his hands emerged on you for his patented head, neck, and shoulder massage, he could have charged money for those. 

 

Carl’s spiritual faith began as a young child and remained with him throughout his life. As a follower of Christ, Carl was a principled man with integrity and loyalty. Carl had many LDS Church callings through the years and serving as the Bishop for the Young Adult Singles Ward brought him the greatest joy. Carl brought Home Teaching to a whole new level. He would stop by numerous homes in his neighborhood regularly, just to check in to see if there was something needed, bring a goodie, or just give a big Carl hug. 

 

On March 1, 2018, his beautiful wife, Gayle preceded Carl in death, as they are now joined together again, they leave behind a tremendous legacy. Carl is survived by his four children: Ann Dahl, Sue Stringham (Bob), Jill LaSalle and Doug (Julie). Carl also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Carl’s culture of love, joy, and family will flow on for generations to come. 

 

Carl was also preceded by his son-in-law Clay Dahl, sisters Ruby, Doris and Joyce, and his brothers Victor and Gayle. He is survived by his dear sister and best friend, Camille Field. 

 

Services will be held at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., where friends may visit family from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be held at the Fountain Green Cemetery, Fountain Green, Utah 

 

Our family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Welcome Home, for their loving care and attendance to our dad, especially Rosanna, Melissa, Anna & James.
