Carl Richardson Obituary

He was born May 30, 1946, in Hamlet, son of the late Baxter Richardson and Ella Mae Campbell Richardson.
Carl worked with Richmond County Schools as a math and science teacher for more than 30 years. He enjoyed teaching and guiding students throughout his career. He loved sports, especially Duke athletics and the Atlanta Braves, and in earlier years, he enjoyed playing the game of golf. He was a very unselfish gentleman and loved his family dearly.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Altman; and brother, Allison Richardson.
Left to cherish Carl's memories are his wife, Mary Jo Outlaw Richardson of the home; son, Eric Altman of Rockingham; and grandson, Drew Altman.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 11:00am at Richmond County Memorial Park, with interment to follow the service.
Memorials may be made in Carl's memory to: Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy. 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.

Carl Richardson was one of my favorite teachers at Richmond Senior High School. He knew how to reach his students. I was thrilled when he asked me to paint a life size portrait of him dressed as a Richmond Raider football player. He put this painting up in his classroom. I was also blessed to have Carl and Mary Jo as neighbors later in life. My thoughts and prayers are with Mary Jo and family.
