Carl M Spaethe

Carl Spaethe, of Republic, MO, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on November 18, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on July 13, 1949. In 1966, Carl enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country in the height of the Vietnam War. Carl was wounded three times and received a purple heart among other awards. On April 14, 1984, Carl married Susan Nelson, and they were blessed with two children, Gregory and Elizabeth. Carl worked as a deputy sheriff in both South Dakota and Iowa before joining the US Postal Service, where he served thirty years as both a plant manager and assistant postmaster, until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Springfield. Carl enjoyed playing pool, bowling, spending time outdoors, especially working in his yard, watching western movies and television shows, traveling with Susan in their RV, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Carl was a very hard worker who strived to provide the best for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Paula. Carl is survived by his loving wife Susan, son Gregory Spaethe and wife Cyndi (grandsons Caleb, Lucas, and Kadyn), daughter Elizabeth Robertson and husband Donnie (grandson Lewis); son Cheyenne Spaethe and wife Kathy (grandson Shane); brother Michael as well as other extended family and countless friends. A Visitation is scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2025, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Meadors Funeral Home in Republic. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery where he will receive full military honors.
