Carl Eugene Story, 87, of Hallsville passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Carl was born on January 5, 1938, in Salem, Missouri to Luther and Myrtle (Mead) Story. He grew up in Gerald, Missouri where he attended school and was a 1956 graduate of Owensville High School. Upon graduation, Carl joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country while stationed in Korea.

Carl was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn Matthews, in 1959; they were married for nearly 65 years.

Following his time in the service, Carl accepted a job opportunity with the Union Ironworkers Local 396. This opportunity would lead to a lifetime career with the Ironworkers Union and eventually resulted in him holding the position of Union Representative prior to retiring in 1999.

Carl loved to travel with his family and in various groups of children and grandchildren he and Evelyn visited all corners of the United States, from Hawaii to Cape Cod, from Alaska to Florida. A very special recent trip came for Carl and Evelyn in June of 2022 when they travelled to Trenton, Georgia to renew their marriage vows in a church in the same town where they'd been married more than six decades before.

In addition to traveling, Carl enjoyed golfing and was once featured in the local newspaper for making a hole in one on September 6, 2012 at A.L. Gustin.

He also enjoyed all MU, Cardinals, and Chiefs sports. He was a hunter and fisherman, and a wicked poker player.

Carl is survived by his three children: Mitchell Story (Douglas Favero), Matthew Story (Kristi Breuer) and Angela Story (Scott Lynch); granddaughters Felicity and Gabriella Story and grandson Lane Story; and great granddaughter Emma.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life Evelyn, his parents, and eight siblings: Gladys, Audrey, Samuel, Bertha, Bill, Bob, Joseph, and Mary Jane.

Friends are asked to join Carl's family at a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please contact the family for further details.
