Carl Lee West Jr., age 60 of Andover, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Carl was born on November 27, 1962, to Carl Sr. and Barbara (Stafford), in Lawton, Oklahoma. They later moved to Dallas, Texas where his sister Susan was born in 1965. Carl attended and graduated High School at Walden Prep. He later attended the University of Texas at Dallas where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Business Management. After college he was hired as the Assistant Controller for Hydraulic & Pneumatic Equipment Company. Carl began his 33-year career in 1990 at Pioneer Balloon Company as Controller of the manufacturing facility in Dallas, Texas. In 1999, he became part of the JD Edwards upgrade team and later moved to the Wichita area and became Controller of the Pioneer Balloon facility in El Dorado, Kansas. He later moved to the corporate office in Wichita, first as Operations Controller, and most recently as a traveling Manager for the Operations Team. His expertise in accounting systems and operations made him a vital employee of the company.
Carl married Kelly Hohenbrink on June 12, 1993. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Tyler Eric in 1994, and Jacob William in 1998. They later divorced. He married Cara (Holinde) Tuohey on July 1, 2000, in which he became a stepfather to Kyle and Kolten Holinde. While married, they were blessed with one daughter, Brennan Jade in 2003. They later divorced.
Throughout Carl's life, he was an avid soccer player who played at the collegiate level and later enjoyed coaching his son's teams. He was also a talented guitarist, and a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. His interests were widespread and included sports, history, music, geopolitics, and theology. When he learned something, he never forgot it. Because of his unmatched intelligence, he was an expert in many different subjects. Carl was a proud son, brother, and a dedicated friend to many. However, his biggest joy was being a father.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Sr., in 2018 and son, Jacob (Jake), in 2019. He is survived by his son, Tyler, and daughter, Brennan, of Andover, KS, mother, Barbara, and sister, Susan of Dallas, Texas, a nephew, and three nieces.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, with family present, Sunday, October 29, 2023. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E Central Ave., Wichita, KS 67206.
