Carla Morasch

On February 1, 2024, Carla Morasch passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease while living in Clovis, New Mexico with her daughter and grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as an independent, strong, witty, and proud mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Carla was born Carla Anne Dean on May 21, 1953, in Hayward California. Growing up, Carla was active in marching band, playing the flute and piccolo for Amador Valley High School. She was a prominent member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls serving as Grand Officer as well as a State Representative in New York for the state of CA. She was married to William Morasch and had her daughters, Jennifer and Beth. In the early 1980's, Carla moved with her entire family to Crestview, Florida where she lived, worked, and raised her daughters for 38 years.
On April 15, 1985, Carla began her career as a corrections officer in Okaloosa County. During her time at the Okaloosa County Department of Corrections, she took on many leadership roles and rose through the ranks as an officer. She was there through the transfer from Sherriff's Dept to county, the construction of the new jail building, she managed the ACR department and SRT team, helped with accreditation, was an instructor at the corrections academy, provided professional development and human diversity training and was a constant mentor to fellow officers. After almost 30 years of service, Carla retired as Captain of Security and was awarded the rank of Major before leaving the department for the last time. She was proud of her accomplishments and made lifelong friends that she considered family during her time at the Department of Corrections.
Carla's true joy in life was being a grandmother to Carli and Sam. Even though they moved around due to their dad's military career, she always found time to spend with them. Summers were spent with her in FL with beach trips, tea parties and movie nights. She even spent months in Japan when they moved overseas, and she never missed a Christmas, no matter where they lived. She was the best rock collector, puddle splasher, and swing pusher. And, even when they grew into teenagers, she always took them on their traditional visit to Twin Hills Park to feed the ducks. Every holiday the children looked forward to her fun, themed boxes filled with treats, art projects and toys. She was their first call to tell exciting news and their biggest cheerleader. She was an amazing grandma and left a legacy of love and strength for her grandchildren.
Carla is survived by her daughter Jennifer Hartman and her husband Patrick Hartman, her granddaughter Carli Hartman, grandson Sam Hartman, her brother Carl Dean Jr and his wife Stacy Dean, her nephews Carl Dean III and Danny Dean, her son-in-law Shannon King, and his daughter Katie King. She was proceeded in death by her daughter Elizabeth King, her brother Charles Dean and her parents Dorothy Dean and Carl Dean.
A memorial service will be held at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home on March 15, 2024. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM with the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
