Harper-Talasek Funeral Home - KilleenCarla Jean Niswonger was born on June 11, 1941, in Lilbourn, MO, the oldest of six children, and died peacefully in the arms of Our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Carla was a beautiful pianist, starting to learn to play at the young age of four years old. She had a deep love for her church community, dedicating countless hours to sharing her musical gifts and faith. Over the years, Carla served faithfully in her congregation as choir director and music director, roles she cherished dearly. Her devotion to church life brought her great joy and fulfillment, and she found purpose in helping others experience the power of worship through music. She was also a piano teacher for several years, teaching privately in her home.
Carla is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman, and both her parents, Marceline (Lewis) Latham and Carl Keith Latham, and a brother.
She is survived by her four children: Sharon Niswonger, Steven Niswonger (Tammy), Scott Niswonger (April), and Tamara Vaughn (Ray). She was loved by her siblings: Keith Latham, Nancy Reiminger, Brenda Ford, and Becky Evans. She will also be missed by seven grandchildren: Shawn Ward, Christopher Niswonger (Nicole), Heather Richardson (Kevin), Sydnee Niswonger, Jordanna Porter, Conner Niswonger, and Cooper Niswonger, and six great-grandchildren.
Public funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home (Killeen location). Services to conclude in the chapel.
