Carlene Ann Day, 84, of York, ME passed away August 14, 2023 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rochester, NH on January 27, 1939, she was the daughter of Normand Brochu and Emilienne Brochu (Lemire).
Carlene met the love of her life, Don Day, in Rochester, NH while working together as teenagers and they spent a magical 66 years loving and supporting each other. 41 of those years were spent in York, ME, close to the beaches she loved so much. Together they raised their three amazing sons, Brian, Bruce, and Barry.
Carlene was an avid reader and would fill her time by reading libraries full of books, which contributed to her work as an assistant librarian at York High School for many years. It was also through this love of reading that she discovered her great passion; researching genealogy and her family tree. She spent a great deal of time researching her family history, even going so far as to travel to Canada and Ireland to learn more. She left a lasting gift to her family by collecting two volumes of her family history that she self-published and shared with many family members.
Along with her love for genealogy, Carlene loved to travel, and loved going to the beach, especially York Harbor Beach and Long Sands. A self-proclaimed snowbird, one of her favorite places to go was Venice, Florida. She also loved camping with her family and was always in for listening to live music, and dancing whenever she had the chance. Carlene loved being a grandmother and was always warm and welcoming to everyone, be they relatives, friends, or even strangers (though they wouldn't stay strangers for long).
Carlene was predeceased by her parents, Normand Brochu and Emilienne Brochu (Lemire), and her loving companion Misty. She is survived by her husband, Don Day; her sons Brian Day and spouse Kimberly, Bruce Day and spouse Melissa, and Barry Day; her grandchildren Larissa, Ian, Jesse, Sophie, Isabel, Eliza, Josephine, Carter, and Nora; her great grandchildren Adrian, Ruby, Caydence, Conrad, and Leona; and her sister Norma Bard.
Carlene was truly a bright warm light in the lives of all who knew her. Though she has passed her legacy down to her sons, she will be remembered fondly by all those who had the extreme privilege of being a part of her life.
