We celebrate the life of Carlene Elizabeth Gober, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and warmth shaped the lives of everyone who knew her. She passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on November 20, 1952, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Carlene grew up in Satartia and was raised in the Mount Olive Methodist Church, where her lifelong faith first took root. After graduating from Yazoo City High School, she began her career at Southern Vital Records as a switchboard operator. It was there that God set in motion one of the greatest blessings of her life - she met her future husband, Hal David Gober, who had come in for a job interview. Not long after, he called to ask if she would like to go to the rodeo with him. said yes - and that moment marked the beginning of a marriage that would last 51 and a half years.
Carlene went on to work for Deposit Guarantee Operations in North Jackson, Mississippi, Vital Records, and Mac's Air Conditioning before devoting her time to being a homemaker. She built her life around faith, family, and the quiet joy of making a house a home. Her gentle patience, caring spirit, and attention to detail were evident in everything she touched.
She was a gifted seamstress and crafter, known for her creativity and skill. From sewing her son Kristoffer's Halloween costumes to decorating her home with handmade touches, Carlene found joy in creating beauty from simplicity. Her hands were steady, her heart was kind, and her love was evident in every thread and every act of care.
Carlene shared a special bond with her brothers, Leland and Tommy Rasco, as well as her nephew, James Rasco. She also cherished her role as "Mimi" to her grandsons Preston, Braden, and Tristian, who brought her endless joy. To them, she was more than a grandmother - she was a source of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Carlene's faith guided her through life's every season. She lived out the quiet strength and dignity described in Proverbs 31:25-26:
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue." Her family and friends will remember her for her steadfast spirit, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. Though we grieve today, we also find peace in knowing that she now rests in the presence of her Savior. As Revelation 21:4 reminds us: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Carlene's story is one of love, faith, and family - a life beautifully lived and deeply cherished. Her light continues to shine through her husband, her son, her grandsons, and all who were blessed to know her. Forever in our hearts, her love continues to guide and comfort us - until we meet again.

Yesterday

I met Carlene while working at Joy's in Pearl, MS. back in early 2000s That was where Carlene obtained much of her supplies to cross stitch. We became friends. She most recently reconnected with me after my move to Texas telling me of her illness. Carlene's laugh was unmistakable unique. She loved sparkle and always included something with shine in her projects. Carlene loved her family & was devoted to their needs. I texted her this morning not knowing she had gone to see her Lord. Those remaining here on earth will surely miss this lovely lady but if you are a Christian you are promised that you'll meet again.
