Carlos Manuel Alers, age 69, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his residence after a protracted battle with amyloidosis. He was born September 5, 1956, in San Jose, Costa Rica, where he lived as a young child.

Athletics was a lifelong love for Carlos. He ran the 400-meter hurdles at Colorado State University and went on to coach track and field at Idaho State University. Years later, he took up cycling. He loved the thrill of riding in the foothills and competing in races, including the National Senior Games. He kept in touch with old friends and made many wonderful new ones through his cycling. Carlos also coached his son's soccer team for many years, even taking a group of 29 elementary boys and their families to Costa Rica for friendship, matches, and sightseeing. Throughout his life, Carlos was the life of the party and always eager to organize events, get-togethers, and lots of breakfasts. Pura vida!

Carlos is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Andres; daughter, Natasha; brothers, Jorge (Kerry) and Robert (Jennifer); sister, Sonia (Lonnie); sister-in-law, Diane (Joel); brother-in-law, Bob; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Carlos also leaves countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Carlos's passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and those whose lives he touched. We ask that you remember him for his humor, kindness, positivity, grit, and dedication to his friends and family.

A celebration of life date is yet to be determined.
