Carlos Cantu, affectionately known as "Pops," or "Los", by his sisters, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on July 14, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, Carlos grew up in Irving, where he completed his education at Nimitz High School and pursued further studies at Midwestern State University and Centenary College.
Carlos was not just a brother, uncle, and friend; he was the heart of his family, known for his big heart and a genuine disposition that endeared him to many. He was the family’s communicator, often making weekly calls to relatives, nurturing bonds, and sharing laughter. His avid love for sports, particularly soccer and the Dallas Cowboys, might have made him a familiar presence at live sporting events. He found joy in music and movies, often spending evenings with family engaged in spirited conversations or playing games.
Carlos is survived by his cherished siblings: Delia Cantu, Della Jones (and her husband, Steve Jones), Diane McSpadden (and her husband, Jess McSpadden), and Chardell White (and her partner, Pierre Johnson). He also leaves behind his brother, Larry White, niece Adrianna White, nephew , Christian and AJ, Step father Augustine (Ruben) Mojica along with numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles who remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia C. Mojica, father, Charles E. White, and cherished grandparents: Leandro and Trinidad Flores, Shay White, as well as his God Father Alfred Moreno Sr., several aunts and uncles.
Carlos's kindness extended beyond his family; he was well-known for helping those in need and made an impact on the lives of many through his generous spirit.
A memorial service to honor Carlos Cantu will be held on August 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, located at 403 South Britain Road, Irving, TX 75060. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join in celebrating the life of a beloved brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed.
