Carlos Jasso Niño, Sr., age 90, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by the love of his family, with rosary in hand, on August 3, 2025, in
San Antonio, Texas. Born on October 8, 1934, in Edinburg, Texas, Carlos lived a life rooted in faith, service, and quiet dignity. Growing up, his mom made sure faith was at the heart of their home, ensuring they never missed a Sunday service. It became a comforting tradition, one he lovingly carried on with his own children. He worked at Handy Andy grocery store where he met his sweetheart Eloise. Not long after, he was drafted to the Army. Two years later, he returned home to marry her on January 29, 1960 and began the beautiful journey of raising a family. Throughout his life, he remained close to his siblings. He worked alongside his brother Magé at H-E-B, where they proudly referred to each other as "partners"-a title that began as a professional bond and became a lifelong nickname that reflected their deep connection. Later, he continued his service to others through roles in the Postal Service and the Air Force Reserves. Together with Eloise, he raised three children, instilling in them the highest values and being the definition of what it means to be a Niño: humble with dignity. Showing everyone we meet the love of Jesus. Resilience became the thread that carried the Niño family forward as their timelines parted with their beloved matriarch, Eloise. New generations of Niños grew, and to Carlos, his grandchildren & great grandsons were his world. After a decade of time passed he met Yolanda, through her mother. Their connection blossomed into love, and they got married on August 27th, 1992, blending their families and extending that same warmth and devotion to her six children. Carlos & Yolanda were not only companions for the rest of his life, but they served together, working at Bill Miller's Barbecue catering for special events for 30 years (1991-2021). They convalidated their marriage on November 20, 2024, receiving the sacred blessing of Holy Communion as they united in Holy Matrimony. A noble veteran, Carlos dedicated much of his life to the United States Military. He served with honor in both the U.S. Army from 1957-1959, where he attained the rank of an (E-5 Sergeant)-and later in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1977-1994, retiring as an (E-8 Senior Master Sergeant). His military career reflected his steadfast dedication to duty, discipline, and integrity. After his retirement from the armed forces, Carlos continued serving the community as a dedicated Postal Worker-Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1966-1990. He lived by the virtues of humility, sacrifice, and compassion. He loved a good road trip, especially adventures to Las Vegas and Kickapoo. Music and food brought him true joy, with Vicente Fernández holding a special place in his heart as his favorite artist. He was always grateful for the gift of home-cooked meals, lovingly prepared by family and friends. A passionate sports fan, he took pride in predicting stats and game outcomes for his favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and San Antonio Spurs. When he wasn't watching game shows, the news or late night talk shows, he could often be found avidly reading his Bible and daily devotional prayers. The most generous man, he gave his time & love to each of his grandchildren at holiday gatherings, birthdays, school activities, graduations, weddings, and every milestone in between. His signature tradition was to give cards of any occasion with special smiley faces on the envelopes next to our names, a simple, joyful signature that made every card feel extra special. A handy man, Carlos was the one to call to get the job done. Incredibly sharp, he was also the go-to for financial advice, especially when it came to taxes. He loved his hot coffee and huevos rancheros on a Sunday morning, after celebrating mass. A simple man with a pure heart, Carlos found joy in life's little moments. He was deeply grateful for everything he had and poured kindness and grace into every life he touched. Carlos is survived by his beloved wife Maria Yolanda Niño; his children from his first marriage Rosalie (Thomas) Cavazos, Carlos (Lisa) Niño Jr., and Gloria (Kenneth) Pridemore; his step children Rebecca (Jesse) Hernandez, Albert (Diane) Lopez, Adolph Lopez, Bertha (Joe) Vidales, Olivia Peralta, Yolanda (Adam) Miller; grandchildren Randall (Analisa) Cavazos, Richard (Dystany) Cavazos, Roger Cavazos, Allison Niño (Angel) Santiago, Marcus (Selena) Niño, Amber (John) Guest, and Gregory Pridemore; and great-grandchildren Jaxon Cavazos and Ragnar Cavazos; and numerous step grand & great grandchildren.
