Carlos was born in New Bedford Massachusetts and moved to Pico, Azores when he was 4 years old. He grew up, married and had his first son in the town of Sao Joao in Pico. In 1947 he migrated to the central valley to the town of Visalia to work in the dairy industry. In 1950 he moved to Watsonville, California and was joined by his parents, wife Isabel and son Ruben. He worked in the fields picking various types of fruit and vegetables; later he took on a job at Russo's cannery. He later moved to the Watsonville Cannery and worked in frozen foods with a good part of his career being a supervisor. He retired in his 60's to pursue his love of family, fishing and farming. He was an avid supporter of the Portuguese Holy Ghost society in town, holding various posts in the organizations. In 2001 he moved to Fremont to be closer to his son Ruben and in 2010 he took his first and last return visit to his home in Pico to visit family and friends. He spent his last few years with his son and his wife before moving to assisted living after having a minor stroke. Always positive, happy and helping people where ever he was. His patron saint Bon Jesus had always helped him and he felt he should help others when he could. He was a good man, a good father and will be truly missed by many.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 18th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, in Watsonville, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christian Church (2401 E.
