Carma Rae Hamilton

Beloved mother, sister, grandma, and great-grandmother Carma Hamilton passed away November 7, 2025 in Lindon, Utah after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. Carma was born in Salt Lake City May 1, 1935, the eldest of seven children born to Joseph McPhie and Callie Jensen McPhie. She spent a happy childhood in the Salt Lake city area, working and playing with her siblings. She gained a love for music early on as her mother had a beautiful singing voice and played several instruments, and as she worked with her father to restore and sell pianos of all shapes and sizes.

Carma graduated from East High School, after which she attended cosmetology school and earned her credential there. For the rest of her life she cut, curled, and styled hair – mostly for free for friends and family, and she enjoyed working as a beautician in several senior care facilities later in her life. She made sure that her own hair was always neatly cut and styled. She instilled a love of music in her three children and was a Primary and ward chorister for many years.

She met her husband Eugene Hamilton during her freshman year at BYU, and lived all over the country with him as he served in the US Air Force and they raised their three children in Arizona, Washington, Mississippi, Alabama, Ohio, Nebraska and back to Utah. Carma and Gene served missions together in Jamaica and Guatemala and loved working together in the Bountiful LDS temple. She was always growing some kind of plant, usually something to eat like tomatoes or raspberries. Carma loved growing flowers of all kinds, especially roses.

Gene preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by a sister and two brothers, three children, thirteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13 th at 11:00am at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow.
