Carmen Caputo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on Mar. 3, 2026.
On Tuesday February 24, 2026, Carmen Caputo, loving husband and father, passed away at age 80.

Carmen was born on September 3, 1945, in England to R.J. and Audrey Caputo, moving to Utica, New York shortly thereafter.

Graduating from Utica Free Academy in June 1963, he volunteered for the Marine Corps in August of that same year. Following his honorable discharge in 1966, he moved to Oklahoma where he worked at the Midwest City YMCA as a fitness instructor and custodian while attending Central State to get his degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating, he began a 27-year career as a 6th grade teacher at Barnes Elementary. While there he would meet the love of his life, Janie Gregory, and go on to marry her in August 1977. After several years of wedded bliss, their family grew to include their son Joseph G. Caputo. They were married for 48 years.

Carmen will be remembered not only for his dedication in the classroom, but also for his coaching and guidance of generations of powerlifters in his backyard gym.

While not a boastful person, he set multiple state and national records in Bench and Deadlift while claiming 3 National Championships. Carmen was preceded in death by his father R.J. and his mother Audrey.

He is survived by his wife, Janie, his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sarah, and several cousins still living in Utica.

A memorial service will be held on Friday March 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Midwest City at 10AM. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carmen's honor to the Semper Fi Fund at thefund.org/donate.
