Carol Agan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierschbacher Funeral Homes - Knoxville on Feb. 10, 2026.
Carol Dawn Agan, 84, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials and condolences may be sent to 6718 NE 9th Court, Des Moines, IA 50313.

Carol was born August 10, 1941, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Glenn and Claudine Mitchell. She graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1959.

Carol was united in marriage to Gordon Agan, and together they were blessed with two sons, Steve and Matt.

While raising her sons, Carol worked at the Knoxville Journal Express as a photographer and writer. In 1982, she began a career in real estate sales with First Realty of Knoxville. She later worked for Principal Financial Group in Des Moines from 1987 until her retirement in 2002. Never one to slow down, Carol returned to real estate in Knoxville, continuing to help families until her final retirement in 2020.

Carol was known for her warm smile, quick wit, and selfless heart. She would do anything for anyone. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, golfing, deer hunting, and playing softball. Carol also shared a lifelong bond with her cousin, Sharon Young, who was more like a sister to her.

In her later years, Carol found her greatest joy in attending her grandchildren's activities and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Her family remembers her as a loving listener, gentle advisor, and best friend.

Carol is survived by her sons, Steve (Vickie) Agan and Matt (Shawn) Agan; grandchildren: Sarah (Ken) Payne, Brad Agan, Jac (Samantha) Agan, Jada Agan and fiancé Brandon Hauser; great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Michael, Otis, and Murphy; cousin, Sharon Young, her California cousins and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Agan, and her parents, Glenn and Claudine Mitchell.

Carol's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones find peace knowing she is reunited with the love of her life, Gordon.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at North Mahaska Specialty Care Center and Mahaska Health Serenity House for their compassionate care during her final days.
