Mesquite, Nevada – Lawrence Edward Agan, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Beehive Assisted Living. He was born February 4, 1941, in Chillicothe, MO to Margaret Esther Agan and Edward Carson Agan. His had an ideal childhood, riding his bike everywhere and pulling his dog, Togo, in his wagon.
When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Dallas. He went from a one room schoolhouse to Highland Park Junior High. Fortunately, when his folks bought a home, he was transferred to a school he loved and made fast friends. He excelled at everything. He was always working odd jobs, mowing yards, checking groceries at A&P, and always playing his guitar and singing. High School was a big fun deal for him and his band! A good student he was not!
He went five years to the University of Texas, majoring in advertising, where his band was #1 on campus, booked a year in advance. A good student he was not!
After college he joined the Army and was a trainee in Military Intelligence, learning all kinds of things that can get you in trouble, like picking locks.
He began his sales career and was quickly promoted to Sales Marketing Manager at Western Publishing, the maker of Little Golden Books. This was a job that required a Masters Degree, which they waived for him.
He spent ten years with Gibson Greeting Cards and then met his wife, Brenda Agan, who thought he sold greeting cards door to door! Larry and Brenda met on a Sunday at church, had dates on Thursday and Friday and decided to get married! The two were married nine weeks later. Two years later, Larry and Brenda welcomed their first child, Cara Margaret, and bought their first rental property. This began a lifetime of real estate investing for the couple.
Larry went on to work for Hallmark Cards and had a second child, Emily Anne. In 1977, he was named Salesman of the Year. He was then transferred to the home office as Product Marketing Manager, a job requiring a master's degree.
After three years, the family wound up in Wichita, Kansas, a great place to raise a family. Their real estate business was growing, with two shopping centers and multiple rental houses and soon it was a full time job for both.
Larry’s hobbies included stamp collecting, managing investments and, of course, his music. He has overseen and helped so many people with their finances. He has recorded four CDs, two 45s and was the Singin’ DJ in Mesquite for 15 years.
Larry was a wonderful husband, son and father, but more than that a very dear friend. He made friends everywhere and genuinely loved people. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda, of Mesquite, Nevada, and daughters, Cara Thome and Emily Porter, both of whom reside in San Diego, California. He has four grandchildren: Ellis Thome, Celia Thome, Weston Porter and Lyla Porter. He has a sister, Marilyn Chapman, who resides in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his late sister, Patricia Lee, and his beloved parents, Margaret and Ed Agan.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 16 at 11:00am at the Christian Community Church in Mesquite. Interment will follow in the veteran's section at the New Mesquite City Cemetery on Hardy Way.
