Carol Allio Obituary
Together they are singing harmony, dancing and laughing among God's angels. Carol Muriel Allio of Akron passed away on June 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving children. She was born on August 30, 1928 in Akron, Ohio at People's Hospital (Akron General). She was the first of two children of Gwendolyn and Carroll Wright Rutan. Carol attended Seiberling Grade School and graduated from East High School in 1946.
On October 28, 1950, Carol married the love of her life, Thomas J. Allio Sr, in the Chapel at St Paul Church. Together, they had five children in five years as Carol devoted her life to being a mother and homemaker. She instilled in her children a clear moral compass and a strong work ethic. She taught them to love God, serve others, and act with integrity at all times. Perseverance despite the obstacles was her mantra.
Carol was a convert to the Catholic faith and a 44 year member of Annunciation Parish (Visitation of Mary). Throughout the years, she served on numerous committees and organizations, including the Altar and Rosary Society, St.Ann's Club, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Parish Retreats, Youth Club, and the Holy Name dance committee. Prior to joining Annunciation, Carol was an active member at Oak Hill Presbyterian in Ellet.
At the age of 40, Carol reentered the workforce and spent 16 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in the record's management department, where she retired in 1985.
Her English, Scottish and Welsh heritage meant a lot to her. One of her fondest memories was the trip that she and Tom took there in the mid 80's. She was thrilled to walk the land of her ancestors. One memorable stop was the wholesale shop in Kings Lynn that was run by her Great Grandfather Scott. As she walked the hill to the shop, she said: "It was like I had been there before." There were other notable trips to Hawaii, Italy and across the western United States. When asked about her favorite place on earth, Carol said: "Anywhere I am with my husband and children."
Among her many talents, Carol was a very accomplished artist. She was adept at water colors and enjoyed impressionists, like Monet. Art was a tremendous source of joy and tranquility for her. Through it, she expressed her individuality and her unique view of the beauty of nature. Carol also excelled at gardening. She could make the most distressed flowers bloom to their fullest capacity. As a cook, she often had to be innovative in feeding her large family. Carol could make a meal for seven with a half pound of hamburger. Her specialties were roast beef, pork roast, spaghetti sauce, as well as, her pies and cookies. Everything she prepared had one special ingredient. It was filled with abundant love.
In 1988, Carol and Tom bought their dream home in Marco Shores Estates in
Naples, Florida. For 25 seasons, they immersed themselves in this vital, Senior community. They enjoyed many friendships, social events, walks on the beach, as well as, countless sunsets.
A book could be written about the 62 year love affair of Carol and Tom Allio. The pages would be filled with examples of boundless love, total devotion to each other and self sacrifice. They were inseparable. Carol's devotion to Tom was never more evident than when he had quintuple heart surgery in 2005. Ever attentive and loving, she nursed and willed him back to health.
Carol is survived by sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Allio Jr, William (Nancy) Allio, Mark (Michele) Allio, and daughter, Diane (Paul) Gingo. She is preceded in death by husband, Thomas J Allio Sr, and daughter, Janet Kaye Allio, as well as, her parents, brother William Rutan and step father, Charles Archer. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
